Why Restory

I’ve always felt like a pretty sensitive person. As a child, I went through many traumatic events and as I got older, I learned to hide the parts of myself that I felt people didn’t want to see. I turned to writing where I felt I could fully be myself. With 1.5 MFA programs under my belt, plus plenty of writing workshops, conferences, and online classes, I found myself still wanting more. Sure, classes helped up level my creative writing skills, but there was something missing. With nonfiction writing, things can get personal quickly, especially memoir. I was writing difficult scenes as I accessed past traumas and I didn’t know how to get through it. So I started applying strategies that I learned about and used in therapy as well as other healing modalities. What resulted was a fusion of craft plus heart. I designed Restory as an offering to help others wade through their own hard memories with softness for their past selves. It’s what I wish I had when I was writing my book.

Meet your instructor

Christina Berke MFA M.Ed.

Hi, I’m Christina — a published writer, trauma-informed educator, and the creator of Write Now, an online writing workshop space. Our signature class, Restorying, is a self-paced course for people ready to tell the truth on the page—gently.

With over a decade of experience teaching writing, editing memoirs, and creating curriculum, I’ve seen what happens when someone dares to write their real story. It’s electric. It’s healing. And it can be scary.

That’s why I’ve spent years designing writing experiences that are brave but never brutal, especially for those who’ve lived through hard things.

🎓 My background includes:

  • An MFA in Creative Writing and an M.Ed. in Education

  • 15+ years teaching creative writing at universities, private schools, and nonprofits

  • Published in places like The Sun, Teen Vogue, Pithead Chapel and elsewhere

  • Supported by prestigious writing organizations such as Hedgebrook, Bread Loaf, Tin House and more

  • Certification in trauma-informed pedagogy and somatic practices

  • Editing experience with memoirists, first-time writers, and survivors

  • Running beloved writing communities where people feel safe enough to go deep

  • Personal experiences living with trauma (ACE 8 over here!) and trying to write about it on my own

I’m not just here to help you write—I’m here to help you stay with yourself while you do.

You don’t need to write it all at once. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a safe way in—and someone who knows the terrain. That’s what Write Now’s Restorying is for.

I'm so glad you're here.
